Soaring in the Summer: Screen-Activities for the International Day of Play

Stories & Spotlights
DAOF day of play

This summer is off to a great start with the International Day of Play! This day is supposed to be spent screen-free, with fun ways to stay engaged and be active.

Here at Digital Academy of Florida (DAOF), we motivate our students to balance the virtual school environment with physically stimulating activities. Here are five activities that you can not only do today but continue to do throughout the summer!

Learn a New Instrument

Is there an instrument that you’ve always wanted to learn how to play? Well, this summer is the perfect time to try! Taking music lessons in your area or finding beginner books at your local library are great first steps.

Get Inspired Through Writing

Creating short stories and poems is a great way to show off your originality. To make things even more interesting, find some fun writing prompts to challenge your storytelling skills. Let your imagination run wild!

Playing a Sport

Staying active during the summer is very important. For today’s day of play, go outside and put your athletic skills to the test! Do a solo physical activity like bike riding or grab your friends and participate in a group sport like soccer and pickleball.

Building Your Art Skills

Everyone has artistic talent, today may be the right time to explore yours! Grab some markers and blank paper and let your creativity take control. This is also the perfect activity to do with the rest of your family!

STEM At Home

If you enjoy STEM activities during the school year, you can do some of the same projects at home! With household items, you can continue to learn through problem-solving experiments, such as putting together a complex LEGO building or making slime.
