How DAOF Supports Students in College and Career Success

Guidance & Support
Labor Day and Career Readiness at DAOF

To students, Labor Day may seem like a beloved holiday granting a short break in the beginning of the school year. Families may celebrate by taking a long weekend trip to the beach or hosting a barbecue with other community members. However, Labor Day is more than just a break from the cycle of school and work—it is a day to celebrate and honor the “social and economic achievements of American workers,” according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Among the many labor reforms adopted throughout the 19th century, labor activists also fought for a federal holiday meant to recognize the impact that “workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being.” The first Labor Day celebration in America was celebrated on September 5th, 1882, in New York City. Then, in 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed a law officially making it a national holiday set to fall on the first Monday each September.

While Labor Day is usually marked with exciting community celebrations, it is important—especially for students—to understand its true significance and how they may soon make an impact too.

One of our main goals at the Digital Academy of Florida is to ensure our students are prepared for and confident in their futures beyond the classroom. Whether this be attending college, learning a trade or enrolling in a vocational program, or joining the workforce early on, we want to ensure that all our students move on from DAOF with a solid foundation for success.

Students have the option to participate in specialized career pathways such as Arts, AV Technology & Communications, Business Management & Administration, Hospitality & Tourism, and Information Technology. Students may also take industry-recognized certification exams upon graduation, participate in career clubs, or shadow professionals across various career fields. Our school also offers Honors and AP courses allowing students to get ahead on their college journeys right from high school, from the convenience of their own homes.

Whatever path our students choose, we have a resource to support them. We strive for our students to leave DAOF with a knowledge base and skills that will build their confidence and efficacy as workers beyond the classroom. The innovation, dedication, and hard work that we celebrate this Labor Day is fostered right here, at the Digital Academy of Florida.
